Spirit Week

I think there are a couple reasons why we have spirit week. This gets students to have much more school spirit, and it gives the students a chance to have fun. A lot of people have fun dressing up certain days, but there are also the students who do not care. I do not want to come to school dressed like a cowboy. This truely serves no purpose. Dressing like a cowboy is not going to raise anyone's school spirit, but, I guess, some people do have fun with it. Spirit week does not have any importance or significance to me. I do not wear hats; I don't want to dress like a cowboy; I don't want to go out and buy clothes they wore in the eighties; I can already wear black; and I don't really want to dress up to show school spirit because I do not have very much at all. I am not entirely sure why we have a spririt week. If the whole point is to raise school spirt then I still don't get it. I guess I just don't understand what the big deal is about school spirit. I think it is just a liking of the school you go to. This is a good school, but it could be better, so I don't know why students get so excited for this week. School spirit does not have any importance or value. If you like this school that is not going to help you anywhere in life. Spirit week does have a slight effect on the school environment. Usually people are happy when we have this going on, but that would be the only gain from having a week dedicated to school spirit. The whole week students are taking pictures and trying to get away with wearing a hat. Then on the last day of the week we play the games. This really isn't very fun. I don't sign up for anything because I would rather just talk to my friends the whole time we are in the gym. In my opinion we could go without having a spirit week.
